Hood Uses Decisive First-Half Run In 74-53 Win At Alvernia

Reading, Pa. (Jan. 8, 2014) – Hood College (4-8, 1-4) opened up a 20-point halftime lead and kept the gap consistent through the second half in a 74-53 win over Alvernia University (4-8, 0-5) Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Conference women's basketball action at Jack McCloskey Court.

The Blazers opened the game with a 10-4 run and pushed their lead to a dozen points, 20-8 at the 9:51 mark.  It hovered there until the guests scored 11 of the last 13 points to take a 43-23 lead into the locker room.

Yoh led the Crusaders with a dozen points through the first 20 minutes shooting 4-for-6 from the floor.

Alvernia put together a 6-0 spurt early in the second half on a 3 from Chelsea Ebersole (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) and a 3-point play from Tyra Roberts (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) to pull within 16 points, but went scoreless for a three-minute stretch as the Blazers pushed back ahead by 20.

The second-half lead grew to as many as 27 points for the Blazers, 72-45 with 2:59 to play.

Yoh finished with a game-high 16 points, Ebersole had 11, and Roberts finished with 10.

Alvernia looks to get back on track Saturday with a tough conference match-up at Messiah College on Saturday.
