Reading, Pa. (Feb. 12, 2014) - Alvernia University (9-14, 5-11) scored first in the second half to break up a 26-26 tie and never gave up the lead, beating Arcadia University (10-13, 4-12) in a Commonwealth Conference women's basketball game Wednesday night at Jack McCloskey Court.

A 3-pointer by sophomore Chelsea Ebersole (Palmyra, Pa./Palymra) gave the Crusaders a 29-26 lead in the first 30 seconds of the second half. The Crusaders expanded that lead to six over the next two minutes, but Arcadia's Samantha Caligiuri used a layup and a foul shot to help cut the lead to one. The Crusaders responded, scoring eight unanswered points to build a 13-point lead with 8:14 left in the second half. While Arcadia attempted a comeback, clutch shooting by junior Kaitlyn Yoh (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) and freshman Tyra Roberts (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) kept the Knights from getting any closer than seven.

Arcadia jumped out to an early 5- point lead to start the game, but a layup by Roberts and a 3-pointer by Jenna Wolff (Newark, Del./ St. Mark's) tied things up. The Crusaders only led twice throughout the first half, being able to come back from deficits on four different occasions.

Led by Yoh, who had 22 points on the night was 10-12 at the line, Alvernia was solid with free throws, shooting a combined 81%. Roberts also reached double figures, scoring 10. Three players for Arcadia were in double figures, led by Dominique Hassinger.

The Crusaders travel to Widener on Saturday for another conference matchup.
