BOX SCORE Reading, Pa. (Feb. 5, 2014) – Albright College (11-8, 5-7) shot 65 percent from the floor in the second half to push a 35-30 halftime lead into a 75-59 win over Alvernia University (6-14, 2-10) Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Conference women's basketball action at the Bollman Center.
The Lions scored the first six points of the second half to build an 11-point lead and led by as many as 16 points, 48-32 with 14:56 to play.
Alvernia put together a run of seven straight points to cut the gap to nine points and later in the half got a 3 from sophomore reserve
Logan Focht (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) to pull within six points, 59-53 with 5:47 to play.
After a few buckets from both teams the Lions held a 9-point lead and put together one more run to close the game scoring seven straight points for the 75-59 final.
Alvernia got a team-high 17 points from
Kaitlyn Yoh (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiesr) and got 11 each from
Tyra Roberts (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) and
Chelsea Ebersole (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra).
Kelecia Harris led the way for the Lions with a game-high 24 points and Jessica Venturelli added 15.
The Crusaders faced a 13-point deficit late in the first half, but put together a 12-2 run capped by an Ebersole 3 to pull within three. Albright got a runner at the buzzer from Kristi McFadden to hit the break with the five-point lead.
Alvernia continues the conference schedule Saturday at Elizabethtown.
