Crusaders Tame Lions, 3-0

Bombard Scores Twice For Alvernia

Reading, Pa (Oct. 14, 2015) – Alvernia University (6-3-5, 1-1-1) was able to capture its first Middle Atlantic Conference Commonweath win of the season after posting a three-goal second half against crosstown rival Albright College (1-10-1, 0-4) in men's soccer action at Alvernia Wednesday evening.

Both teams played the first half neck and neck, with Alvernia taking five shots and Albright taking four.  Neither team was able to convert on a shot attempt, and the game went into halftime at 0-0.

Alvernia was able to get on the board first when Nick Bombard converted a cross from Austin Young. Young passed the ball into Bombard, who was positioned on the left post. His close-range header beat the Albright keeper to put the Crusaders up 1-0.

Three minutes later, Bombard notched his second on the night to put Alvernia up 2-0. Andrew Baylor placed the ball into Bombard, who fired it past Lion keeper, Austin Aldinger.

Alvernia cushioned its lead late in the 54th minute when Chris Guth grabbed a goal of his own.  Young tallied his second assist with a pass into Guth, who headed the ball past the keeper, putting the Crusaders up 3-0.

Alvernia was able to control the ball for the remainder of the game, allowing only one shot, which sailed high, in the final 30 minutes of the game.

Alvernia will continue the conference schedule at home on Saturday at 6:00 pm versus Lycoming College during Alvernia's Homecoming and Family Weekend.
