Frederick, Md. (Oct. 21, 2015) - Hood College (12-5, 3-2) scored a pair of goals in the first half then added the game-winner in the 69th minute of a 3-2 win over Alvernia University (6-5-5, 1-3-1) Tuesday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth Men's Soccer action at Hood.
The Blazers opened the scoring in the ninth minute Christiano Pillari cleaned up a corner kick that was bouncing around in the box. The hosts made the lead two in the 30th minute when Romo Monarrez scored on a header.
The lead remained 2-0 for the Blazers into halftime.
Alvernia cut the deficit in half when
Jay Ringer converted a penalty kick with exactly 24 minutes to play. Two minutes later, Hood's Drew Demich reset the 2-goal lead finding the top corner with a free kick from just outside the box.
Alvernia rallied with its second goal of the day just two minutes after than when
Rocky Elgogari connected with
Vincent Biche. Ringer had a shot blocked in the 79th minute and put a shot on frame that was saved by the Hood keeper in the final seconds of the game.
Alvernia remains at four points in conference standings with three games to go. Arcadia currently sits in fifth place with eight points. The top five teams will make the postseason which starts with a 5/4 first round game.
