Reading, Pa. (Oct. 24, 2015) -
Adam Orndorff scored the game-winner in the first half and
Chris Guth added insurance in the second as Alvernia University (7-5-5, 2-3-1) knocked off Stevenson University (5-10-1, 2-4) by a 2-0 final Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth men's soccer action at Alvernia.
Orndorff received a ball at midfield in the 25th minute and carried it around the Stevenson defense all the way to the endline before cutting toward the net and beating the goalie just inside the near post for his fifth of the year.
Twenty minutes into the second half the Crusaders drew a free kick just outside the box.
Jay Ringer took the kick that squared up the crossbar and rebounded to the six yard line. Guth was at the right spot at the right time and headed the loose ball off the bottom side of the crossbar and in for a 2-0 lead.
Zach Rider made four saves for the Crusaders to earn the shutout.
Alvernia moves up to sixth place in the MAC Commonwealth standings and plays an important game at Widener next Wednesday night before finishing the regular season at Messiah on Saturday.
