Reading, Pa. (Oct. 3 ,2015) - Behind four different goal scorers, Alvernia University (5-2-4) rolled to a 5-0 victory over Goucher College (3-6-1) on a cold and rainy Saturday afternoon.
The Crusaders started off hot when
Nick Bombard scored in just the 10
th minute off a cross from
Metuge Esong. Esong sent a cross across the face of the goal and Bombard was able to beat his defender to the ball and tap it in for the easy goal.
Only two minutes later it was Esong's turn to get in on the goal action as
Jay Ringer played a beautiful aerial through ball to Esong who was able to slam the shot to the far post for his second goal on the season.
Adam Orndorff capped off the scoring for the Crusaders in the first half, as he was able to beat his defender into the box and slide the ball past the keeper making it 3-0.
Two minutes into the second half Bombard put in his second goal of the game on a free kick from
Austin Young. The free kick found Bombard, who was unmarked in the box, as he headed into the back of the yet to effectively put the game away for the Crusaders, and extend the lead to 4-0.
Nick Tait finished off the scoring for the Crusaders in the 71
st minute when he took a pass from
Rocky Elgogari and unleashed a shot on goal that deflected off a Goucher defender before finding the back of the net.
Goucher put some pressure on the Crusader defense in the last few minutes, but the defense was able to stay strong and keep the shutout in tact.
Zach Rider earned the win for the Crusaders playing the first 75 minutes and making two saves for his fourth shutout on the season.
Joe Mitchell played the final 15 minutes for the Crusaders.
Alvernia returns to action on Tuesday when they play Arcadia University in their Commonwealth Conference home opener at 7:00.
