#7 Alvernia Advances To ECAC Semifinal

Frostburg, Md. (Nov. 11, 2015) - Freshman Jay Ringer handed out a pair of assists and #7 Alvernia University (8-7-5) defeated #2 Frostburg State (11-5-2) by a 2-1 final Wednesday evening in quarterfinal action of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Men's Soccer Championships at Frostburg.

The Crusaders advance to the semifinal and will face #3 Geneva College on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at top-seeded Penn State-Behrend.  The Lions will face #5 Grove City College in the other semfinal with the championship slated for Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Behrend.

The last time the Crusaders were at Behrend for an ECAC semifinal they knocked off the Lions 2-0 in the semi then earned their first ECAC crown with a 2-1 double overtime win over Marywood.

In Wednesday's win the Crusaders got on the board first in the 27th minute when Ringer set up Nick Tait for his fourth goal of the season.  The Crusaders were able to hold most of the offensive threats in the early going with Tait finally cashing in for the 1-0 lead.

Alvernia held the 1-0 lead into the second half and was able to double it with a goal in the 85th minute when Ringer assisted Vincent Biche on his second of the season.  The insurance goal proved necessary as the Bobcats broke through in the 89th minute when Guy Nabo headed home a pass from Hunter Jarmon.

Alvernia keeper Zach Rider made four saves in the win.
