Reading, Pa. (Apr. 25, 2015) - Alvernia University (12-3, 5-1) had little trouble in a 9-0 sweep of Lycoming College (3-13, 0-6) Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference women's tennis action at Mifflin Courts.
The Crusaders lost just two games in taking all three doubles matches.Â
Maria Diosteanu and
Jennifer Petrilla earned an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles and Alvernia's No. 2 team of
Cassandra Noray and
Becca Perkins and the No. 3 team of
Alyssa Boyd and
Kristy Schwenk both turned in 8-0 victories.
Petrilla followed with a 2-2 win at No. 1 singles and after three straight 0-0 wins at No. 2, 3, and 4 to give Alvernia the match, the final two singles matches were played in pro sets with
Emily Thek winning 8-4 at No. 5 and
Xena Sperrazza winning 8-3 at No. 6.
Alvernia--which earned the second seed in the conference championship--returns to action next Wednesday when it hosts Messiah College for a conference semifinal match.
