Reading, Pa. (Apr. 29, 2015) - Second-seeded Alvernia University (13-3) won all three doubles matches by indentical 8-6 scores to get out to an early 3-0 lead then got two straight set wins at No. 4 and 5 for a 5-1 win over #3 Messiah College (10-4) Wednesday afternoon in a Commonwealth Conference women's tennis semifinal hosted by Albright College.
The Crusaders advance to the Commonwealth Final Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at top-seeded Lebanon Valley College which advanced with a 5-0 win over #4 Hood College.
Jennifer Petrilla and
Julie Seidel teammed for a win at No. 1 doubles and
Cassandra Noray and
Becca Perkins followed with a win at No. 2.Â
Alyssa Boyd and
Kristy Schwenk earned the third point of the match for the Crusaders with a win at No. 3 doubles.
Boyd and Noray got right to work in singles play at No. 5 and 4 respectively. Boyd opened her match wtih a 6-0, first set win while Noray jumped out 6-3. Both players closed out their matches with 6-1 wins in the second set.
