Alvernia Shuts Out PSU-Harrisburg, 4-0

Orndorff Scores A Pair For Crusaders

Reading, Pa. (Sept. 15, 2015) - Freshman forward Adam Orndorff scored a pair of goals and sophomore goalie Zach Rider made three saves as Alvernia University (2-1-2) shut out Penn State-Harrisburg (1-2-1) by a 4-0 score Tuesday evening in non-conference men's soccer action at Alvernia.

The Crusaders got on the board early when freshman Nick Tait scored his second goal of the year in the third minute.  Tait took a ball just off the penalty spot and ripped a shot off a defender.  He collected the rebound and this time got a favorable deflection off the defense and past Lions' keeper Brandon Hoover.

Fifteen minutes later, junior midfielder Kevin MacFarland crashed the net on a corner kick served in from Austin Young and buried the header back to the near post for a 2-0 lead.

The Crusaders made it 3-0 when Orndorff was awarded a penalty kick after the last Harrisburg defender tugged on the jersey denying Orndorff a clear break for the net.

Orndorff put the hosts up 4-0 in the 43rd minute with an unorthodox effort while laying on the goal line.  Freshman midfielder Vincent Biche made a brilliant move on the right side of the box and gained the endline.  He chipped a cross toward the face of the goal and Hoover was able to deflect it off the back post.  The ball caromed back to Orndorff in a pile on the goal line and he was able to get a foot on it while on his back and poke it home.

Rider was tested just once in the opening 45 minutes and needed two more relatively routine saves in the second half to preserve the shutout.

Alvernia hits the road for a rescheduled game at Dickinson on Thursday evening then heads to Cabrini College this Saturday.
