Center Valley, Pa. (Sept. 26, 2015) - DeSales University (4-5) got a goal on an own goal in the second half to break a 1-1 tie en route to a 2-1 win over Alvernia University (3-2-4) Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action at DeSales.
The Crusaders opened the scoring early in the third minute when sophomore striker
Rocky Elgogari finished a pass from
Chris Guth. The Bulldogs leveled the score in the 39th minute when a long throw-in bounced around in the box beofre Patrick Roche was able to toe it home.
The score remained 1-1 in the second half with the Bulldogs scoring 11 minutes into the half. Their offense played a ball toward the box from midfield and a Crusaders defender--in an effort to clear the ball toward the sideline--accidentally chipped it over the head of sophomore keeper
Zach Rider.
Alvernia had a few threats in the final 30 minutes to find the equalizer.
Austin Young's shot with five minutes to play was saved by the DeSales keeper and
Jay Ringer's effort in the final 90 seconds was blocked.
Rider finished with four saves for the Crusaders.
Alvernia continues the non-conference schedule at Immaculata on Wednesday.
