Reading, Pa. (Oct. 10, 2016) - Alvernia University (2-0) cruised to a 9-0 win over Penn State- Berks (2-1) Monday afternoon in non-conference women's tennis action at Angelica Park.
Cassandra Noray represented the Crusaders well in the No.1 spot, pairing with
Amanda Phillips for an 8-2 doubles win before easily taking a 6-0, 6-1 straight set victory in singles action.
Phillips fought well against Penn State's Kianna Anderson in her No. 2 singles matchup, coming out on top in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3.
Alyssa Boyd posted the best Crusader performance in singles play in the No.3 flight, handily taking a pair of 6-0 sets. Boyd also claimed a win in doubles action as she and teammate
Emily Thek took the No.2 flight, 8-6.
Thek then faced the Lions' Laura Youwakim again, this time at No.4 singles. Youwakim picked up a 6-1 win in the first set, but Thek pushed her way to a 6-4 win in the second set before wrapping up the tiebreaker 10-8.
Cassandra Bean also earned a pair of wins, first capturing No.3 doubles with
Xena Sperrazza, 8-4. Bean then played her way to an 8-1 advantage in a No.6 flight single-set matchup.
Maria Diosteanu represented the Crusaders in the No.5 singles match, sealing the 9-0 team shutout with an 8-6 single set win.
Alvernia continues its fall season on Wednesday, traveling to Cabrini College.
