BOX SCORE Bronx, NY (Dec. 30, 2016) - Lehman College (4-7) used a late first quarter run to guide it to a 71-40 victory over Alvernia University (0-12) Friday afternoon in the consolation game of the CUNY Coaches vs Cancer Women's Basketball Tournament at Lehman College.
The Crusaders opened strong from beyond the arc as
Abbie Zerbe,
Torie Zerbe, and
Maya Cooper all put away 3s to build an 11-10 lead for Alvernia five minutes into the contest. However the Crusaders quickly went cold from 3-point range, going 1-for-6 in the latter part of the quarter, allowing the Lightning to post a 17-3 run and hold a 27-14 advantage entering the second quarter.
The scoring struggles extended to both teams in the second as Lehman just edged the Crusaders 10-8 to take a 37-22 margin into the half.
The 3 continued to trouble the Crusaders in the third as Alvernia went 0-for-10 from downtown.
Miranda Hoover netted 4 of Alvernia's 6 points in the quarter with a pair of jumpers in the lane as Lehman pulled ahead 48-28.
The Lightning put together an 8-0 run to open the final quarter, giving them a 22-13 scoring advantage as the Crusaders matched them through the closing seven minutes.
Amely Del Rosario and Krystal Pearson both recorded double-doubles for Lehman with 23 and 17 points, respectively.
Cooper led the Crusaders with 11 points, while
Torie Zerbe notched 9 points with 9 rebounds and Hoover collected 8 points with 11 boards.
Alvernia returns to its home court and conference schedule on Wednesday, hosting Arcadia University at 6:00 pm.
