Glenside, Pa. (Apr. 2, 2016) - Alvernia University (5-5, 1-0) defeated Arcadia University (0-11, 0-1) by a 9-0 final Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth women's tennis action at Arcadia.
The Crusaders earned an impressive 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles behind the team of
Cassandra Noray and
Amanda Phillips. Both players took the top two singles matches with Noray winning the No. 1 flight 6-0, 6-1 and Phillips following with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2.
Alvernia picked up 8-2 and 8-1 wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles to open the 3-0 lead and finished off all six singles matches in straight sets.
Lillian Hussar and
Emily Thek took the No. 2 doubles match and won at No. 3 and 4 singles respecitvely.
Xena Sperrazza teamed with
Cassandra Bean for the win at No. 3 doubles then won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.  Thek also claimed her singles match in straight 6-0 sets.
The Crusaders return to competition on Thursday, hosting Ursinus College in nonconference action at 3:30 pm.
