Reading, Pa. (Apr. 30, 2016) - Alvernia University (10-7, 6-1) clinched the first four singles matches to claim a 5-4 victory over Lebanon Valley College (7-10, 4-3) Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth women's tennis action.
Trailing 2-1 after doubles competition, the Crusaders took the first four flights in singles play to hold a 5-2 advantage with two matches remaining.
Casssandra Noray, Amanda Phillips, and Emily Thek all took their matches in straight sets at No.1, No.2, and No.4 singles. Lillian Hussar, who paired with Thek at No.2 doubles for the Crusaders first point of the day, rallied back after dropping the second set at No.3 singles to take the final frame 6-2.
Alvernia's win over Lebanon Valley secures its spot as the Number 2 seed in the MAC Commonwealth Team Championship Tournament.
The Crusaders will open the tournament in the semifinal round against No.3-seeded Hood College. As the higher seed, the Crusaders will host the Blazers on Tuesday, May 3rd at 3:30 pm.
The winner will advance to the final round, which will take place on Saturday, May 7th.
