Defending Champs Return To Title Match

Reading, Pa. (May 4, 2016) - Alvernia University--defending champions of the MAC Commonwealth--return to the championship final Saturday at top-seeded Messiah at noon.

The Crusaders--seeded second--knocked off Hood College in the semifinal at home on Tuesday.  Messiah blanked Alvernia 9-0 back on April 16, in a regular season match-up.

Alvernia defeated Messiah 5-1 in the semifinals last spring then knocked off top-seeded Lebanon Valley, 5-1, in the finals.

Messiah will be charing admission for Saturday's Final.

The top four players in the Alvernia lineup all have identical 6-1 records in conference singles matches this season.  Cassandra Noray at the No. 1 flight, Amanda Phillips at No. 2, Lillian Hussar at No. 3, and Emily Thek at No. 4.  Hussar and Thek have the best mark as a team in doubles play going 6-1 in league matches at No. 2.

The winner of Saturday's match will receive the MAC Commonwealth's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championships.
