Reading, Pa. (Apr. 29, 2017) - Messiah College (9-7, 6-1) claimed all three doubles matchups en route to a 6-3 victory over Alvernia University (9-4, 5-2) Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth women's tennis action at Governor Mifflin.
Trailing 3-0 after doubles play, the Crusaders cut their deficit 3-2 as
Cassandra Noray and
Amanda Phillips took No.1 and 2 singles, respectively.
Noray battled back after dropping the first set 4-6 to take the next two sets 6-2, while Phillips claimed a straight set victory.
Emily Thek picked up Alvernia's third point of the day at No.4 singles, collected a straight set win over Messiah's Meagan Scala.
Alyssa Boyd pushed her matchup in the third flight to three sets, but came up short of the point.
With the regular season coming to a close, the Crusaders advance to the MAC Commonwealth playoffs, where they enter the tournament as the #3 seed. Alvernia will open the tournament with a rematch at 2-seeded Messiah College on Wednesday, May 3rd at 3:30 pm.
