Golden Wolves Late Run Falls Short Against Lycoming

BOX SCORE Williamsport, Pa. (Jan. 31, 2018) - Alvernia University (4-16, 0-11) outscored Lycoming College (15-5, 10-3) in the second half, but the Golden Wolves were unable to complete the comeback and fell to the Warriors 67-49 in MAC Commonwealth action at Lycoming.

Alvernia trailed Lycoming by 28 points with five minutes remaining in the third quarter. The Golden Wolves went on a 10-0 run to close out the third quarter and cut their deficit to 48-28. Alvernia closed the gap to 11 points before Lycoming finished the game on a 6-0 run to seal the win.

Two turnovers in the first minute by Alvernia allowed Lycoming to take an early 6-0 lead. The Golden Wolves came back and tied things up at 8-8 before their shooting went cold. Alvernia would go over ten minutes before its next bucket would fall.

The Warriors took advantage of Alvernia's early shooting struggles to take a 24-8 lead with five minutes remaining in the first half. Torie Zerbe dropped in a layup to end the Golden Wolves scoreless streak with just over four minutes remaining in the first half.

Gabrielle de Vito would go on to score Alvernia's final five points of the half. Lycoming entered the break with a 21 point lead.

The Golden Wolves continued their comeback attempt in the fourth quarter, keeping a hot hand and outpacing the Warriors.

With just over a minute remaining in the game, Alvernia had cut Lycoming's  28 point lead down to 11. The Warriors ended the Golden Wolves comeback attempt there and finished the game on a 6-0 run.

De Vito came off the bench to lead the Golden Wolves with 17 points and went 5-6 from beyond the arc. The freshman accounted for all but one of the Golden Wolves made 3-point attempts. Sophomore Kiersten Ingram also came off the bench to score nine points and gather six points and six assists.

As a team, Alvernia 9-9 from the free throw line.

The Golden Wolves return to Jack McCloskey Court on Saturday at 1:00 PM to continue their MAC Commonwealth schedule as they take on #19 Messiah College.
