BOX SCORE Lancaster, Pa (Jan. 5, 2018) - Franklin and Marshall (5-6) led wire-to-wire en route to a 76-55 victory over Alvernia University (3-10) in non-conference women's basketball action at Franklin and Marshall.
The Golden Wolves got off to a slow start, facing a 10 point deficit just four minutes into the game. However, Alvernia went on a 5-0 run midway through the first to cut the Diplomats lead in half. The Golden Wolves run ended with four minutes remaining in the first, with Franklin and Marshall's Haley Pilone dropping a three.
Alvernia trailed by five points entering the second quarter, and cut the deficit to just three points following two quick baskets from Kiersten Ingram and Abbie Zerbe.
The Golden Wolves would fail to get in reach again, as the Diplomats would go on a 16-3 run that spanned the majority of the second quarter. Kiersten Ingram made a layup with 18 seconds remaining in the half, and converted an and-one foul shot, to cut the Diplomats lead to 13 points entering halftime.
A 13 point deficit would be too much for the Golden Wolves to overcome.
The Alvernia offense came alive in the third quarter, scoring 20 points, but Franklin and Marshall kept up their fast pace, scoring 24 points of their own. The Golden Wolves, behind nine consecutive points by senior Liv Andresfki, cut the deficit to 12 points on three occasions, but could never gain ground on the Diplomats.
