BOX SCORE 2 Mahwah, NJ (Feb. 9, 2019) - Alvernia University (2-6) dropped a pair of matches on Saturday at the Ramapo Tri-Match.
Alvernia fell to #11 Southern Virginia University (6-1), 3-0, in the first set of the day and then fell 3-1 to Ramapo College (3-5).
Southern Virginia got off to a quick start against Alvernia with a 25-12 first set decision. Alvernia trailed 16-13 in the second set, but Southern Virginia scored nine of the last 14 points to take a 25-18 win. The Knights took the 3-0 match win with a 25-17 win in the third set.
Spencer Matthews led Alvernia in the first match of the day with nine kills on 27 attacks.
Dalton Hartman finished with 19 assists.
In the second match of the day, Ramapo took a 25-18 first set win to go up 1-0 early. In the second set of the match, Alvernia took a 6-2 lead early, but Ramapo scored three straight to get within one. The Golden Wolves and Road Runners traded the lead multiple times before Alvernia went on a 5-1 run to go up 17-13. Alvernia maintained its lead and took a 25-19 second set win with a kill from
Logan McGinley. Ramapo came right back with a 25-19 win of its own in the third set. In the fourth set, Ramapo and Alvernia kept it close, but the Road Runners edged the Golden Wolves 27-25 to take a 3-1 match win.
Matthews again led Alvernia with 14 kills on 32 attacks. Hartman finished with 38 sets and
Jon Demeter had 11 kills.
The Golden Wolves return home on Wednesday when they open up MAC play against Stevenson University.
