Nick Cummins and
Jonny Ortega earned All-MAC Men's Volleyball honors for their performances during the 2022 season, as announced by the Middle Atlantic Conference on Monday.
Cummins, a first year, earned second team honors as an outside hitter, and Ortega, a sophomore, earned second team honors as a libero.
Cummins, who appeared in 24 matches with 20 starts, finished the season with a team-high 253 kills on 524 attacks. He led Alvernia with a .275 hitting percentage. Cummins' 253 kills was good for seventh overall in the MAC, and his hitting percentage ranked him in the top-15 in the MAC. He finished his first year campaign with a team-high 27 service aces. On the defensive side of the net, Cummins finished with 38 blocks, including 34 block assists.
Ortega appeared in 22 matches and 79 sets for the Golden Wolves in his second year. Ortega led Alvernia with 165 total digs and averaged 2.09 digs per set. His 2.06 digs per set and total digs ranked him sixth in the MAC. Ortega anchored an Alvernia defense that finished with 859 total digs and 9.34 digs per set, ranking the Golden Wolves third in the MAC.
Alvernia finished the season fourth in the MAC with a conference record of 7-6. Alvernia was 13-12 overall.
Messiah's Matt Knab, a setter, was named the MAC Player of the Year, and Mason Scott, a libero for Stevenson, was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Year. Tim Flanagan of Stevenson was named Rookie of the Year. Stevens' Dan Buehring was named Coach of the Year.
Top-seeded Stevens won the MAC Championship on Saturday with a 3-0 sweep of #2 Messiah.
