Chester & Selinsgrove, Pa. (Mar. 29-30, 2019) - This past weekend on Friday & Saturday, the Alvernia University Men's & Women's Track & Field teams competed with a split squad performance at Susquehanna University & Widener University. The throwing athletes on the team competed at the Jim Taylor Invitational at Susquehanna while the rest of the team's athletes competed at the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener University.
Friday
Friday night was just the beginning of what would be a stellar weekend for the Golden Wolves. At Susquehanna University, Senior
Gabriel Fernandez qualified for MAC's with a personal best throw of 32.37m (106'2 ft.) in the men's hammer throw. Teammate, Freshman
Jason Scott would follow suit with another MAC qualifying mark and personal best throw of 34.40m (112'10 ft.) in the men's hammer throw.
Meanwhile, over at Widener University, Senior
Matthew Junio would collect a MAC qualifying time of 34:44.95 in the Men's 10K. Freshman
Paige McKenna competed in the Women's 5K where she ran a personal best time of 21:14.00.
Saturday
The Golden Wolves picked up right where they left off on Saturday morning. The throwers again traveled to Susquehanna University while the rest of the team returned back to Widener University.
At Susquehanna, Freshman
Jason Scott wasn't quite finished with his great performance the night before and wanted to top that. He threw a mark of 37.29m (122'4 ft.) in the men's discus throw, as well as throwing 11.90m (39'0 ft.) in the men's shot put competition. Both marks were personal bests for Scott as well as MAC qualifying marks. Graduate Assistant
Kristen Sipling would throw a personal best of 34.73m (113'11 ft.) in the women's hammer throw, and Freshman
Dianna Morganti would throw a personal best of 25.64m (84'1 ft.) in the women's discus throw.
Sophomore
Katelyn Schoener got things started at Widener University. In the women's 1500m, Schoener would run a 19-second career best time of 5:24.50. In the men's 1500m, Junior
Tyler Barrett would attempt to match that with a 10-second career best time and MAC qualifying time of 4:09.92.
Freshman
Adam Loehr picked up a personal best time in the men's 110m Hurdles, and was followed by freshman teammates,
Trevor Keefer in the men's 100m dash,
Ryan Long in the men's 800m, and
Lauren Lopez in the women's 100m dash. Junior
Tessa Beck ran a career best time in the women's 800m, and Junior
Nicholas Fiucci ran a season best time in the men's 400m as well.
Senior
Lauren Callueng picked up a pair of MAC qualifiers with a time of 1:03.52 in the women's 400m, and a jump of 10.01m (32'10 ft.) in women's triple jump. Sophomore
Susanna Pirollo would have the highest finish on the day for the Golden Wolves in the women's 100m Hurdles. Pirollo finished 5
th overall with a season best time of 16.41.
Freshman
Ivan Fegely would gather a 6
th place finish in the men's high jump with a mark of 1.90m (6'2 ¾ ft.). That mark was good enough for a personal best jump and MAC qualifier. Senior
Anthony Hedgepeth picked up a pair of MAC qualifying marks in the men's long jump and men's triple jump. Hedgepeth jumped 6.48m (21'3 ft.) in long jump which was good enough for 6
th overall, and then jumped 13.00m (42'7 ft.) for 10
th place overall in triple jump. Junior
Hunter Guenzel gathered a 7
th place finish in the men's javelin with a mark of 53.49m (175'6 ft).
Senior
Theresa Hillbish would add on to the phenomenal meet day by throwing a personal best mark and new school record of 33.56m (110'1 ft.) in the women's javelin throw. The former record was held by Hailey Lepori which was 33.21m (108'11 ft.) from an East Stroudsburg University meet back in April of 2012.
To end such a successful weekend for the Golden Wolves, the women's 4x400m relay of
Liza Callueng,
Susanna Pirollo,
Katelyn Schoener, and
Lauren Callueng would run a season best time of 4:18.52 for a 12
th place finish to conclude the meet.
This weekend the Golden Wolves picked up sixteen personal best performances, thirteen MAC qualifying marks, six top-ten finishes, and a school record. The Golden Wolves Track & Field teams will be back in action on Saturday, April 6
th when they travel to Millersville University for the Millersville Metrics Meet.
