Elizabethtown Tops Alvernia, 68-46

Elizabethtown, Pa. (Nov. 20, 2021) - Elizabethtown College (4-0) jumped out to a 27-11 lead at the half and never looked back as the Blue Jays took a 68-46 win over Alvernia University (2-2) on Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's basketball action at Elizabethtown.

Elizabethtown led 27-11 at the half and finished off the game with the 68-46 win over the Golden Wolves.

Both teams struggled to score in the first quarter, with Elizabethtown taking a 7-3 lead into the second quarter.

A jumper by Dee McCormick with 7:01 left in the first half put Alvernia within three, 10-7, but Elizabethtown quickly responded with a jumper of its own to go back up by five, 12-7. A 3-pointer a minute later from Etown put the Blue Jays up eight, 15-7.

Following a jumper by Tamia Wessels with 5:33 left in the half, Alvernia's scoring went cold until there was 1:15 left in half. In that time, Elizabethtown built its lead up to 18, 27-9. A jumper by Cathryn Kramer with just under a minute remaining broke Alvernia's scoreless drought and would be the final points scored by either team in the half as Elizabethtown took a 27-11 lead into the break.

Six minutes into the third quarter, Elizabethtown built its lead up 27, 41-14, after a made layup by Veronica Christ.

After trading baskets in the final minutes of the quarter, Elizabethtown took a 51-24 lead into the fourth quarter.

A 3-pointer by Taliyah Malone with 5:46 left in the game brought Alvernia back within 20, 59-40. Another 3-pointer by Malone just over 90 seconds later brought Alvernia within 16, 61-45, but the Golden Wolves would not get any closer.

Alvernia scored just one point the rest of the way as Elizabethtown came away with the 68-46 win.

Malone led Alvernia with 15 points in 35 minutes of action.

Alvernia is off for the week for Thanksgiving but returns to action on Sunday for its home opener with FDU-Florham.
