Brockport, NY (Nov. 22, 2021) - Alvernia University Field Hockey student-athletes
Brooke Spezialetti and
Madison Potthoff earned NFHCA All-Region honors, as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association on Monday.
Spezialetti earned First Team honors as a defender and Potthoff earned Second Team honors as a midfielder.Â
Spezialetti, the MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Year and MAC Commonwealth First Team All-Conference honoree, led Alvernia's defense during the 2021 season. She finished the year with four goals, four assists, and a team-leading three defensive saves. She anchored a defense that allowed just 1.80 goals per game and finished the season with five shutouts.Â
Potthoff, a MAC Commonwealth First Team All-Conference honoree, led Alvernia with seven goals and four assists for a team-leading 18 points. She finished the season with a .507 shot on goal percentage as well as one defensive save. Potthoff finished fourth in the MAC Commonwealth with a 3.45 shot per game average, and was third in the MAC Commonwealth with 35 total shots on goal.Â
Alvernia finished the 2021 season 9-11 overall and 5-3 in MAC Commonwealth play. The Golden Wolves were the #4 seed going into the MAC Commonwealth Championship, but were eliminated by #1 Messiah University in a 1-0 loss.
