Gingrich One Of Eight Inducted Into Class of 2021

Reading, Pa. (September 13, 2021) - Alvernia University Associate Director of Athletics and Head Field Hockey coach Laura Gingrich was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame - Berks County Chapter on Sunday evening.

In a ceremony hosted by the DoubleTree Hotel in downtown Reading, Gingrich was inducted into the Hall of Fame along with seven other inductees.

In her 19 seasons at the helm of Alvernia Field Hockey, Gingrich has amassed a 242-159 overall record. She has also won two Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) championships and three ECAC titles. In addition, she has made three appearances in the NCAA Division III national tournament and is a two-time Conference Coach of the Year.

Gingrich - a graduate of Solanco High School, West Chester University (BA '84 in Health and Physical Education), and Kent State University ('88 MS in Exercise Science) - is Alvernia's winningest coach in field hockey history.

In a two year hiatus from coaching, Gingrich served as Interim Director of Athletics for Alvernia from 2008-2009. She managed Alvernia's transition from the PAC into the Middle Atlantic Conference, oversaw the completion of new baseball, softball, and turf facilities, and served as the Track and Field Coach in 2009-10.

On October 8th, Gingrich will be inducted into the Alvernia Athletics Hall of Fame with the 2005 Field Hockey team that won the PAC Championship and marked Alvernia's first appearance in the NCAA tournament.

Now in her 20th year of coaching, Gingrich's Golden Wolves are off to a 2-2 start to the 2021 season.

Gingrich joins fellow Alvernia colleagues Mike Miller (Men's Basketball, Hall of Fame Class of 2009) and Yogi Lutz (Baseball, Hall of Fame Class of 2013) as inductees into the Pennsylvania Hall of Fame - Berks County Chapter.

Gingrich's fellow 2021 inductees include: Bob Birmingham, Rick Ferry, Ted Jamula, the late Steve Little, Keith Schlegal, Bob McCool, and Kim (Schroll) Underwood.
