Alvernia Scores Four Unanswered to Down Neumann, 4-2

Aston, Pa. (Nov. 4, 2022) - Alvernia University (2-0-1, 1-0) scored four unanswered goals to take a 4-2 win over Neumann University (1-2-0, 0-1) on Friday night in UCHC Men's Ice Hockey action at Neumann.

The win marks Alvernia's first UCHC win in the program's short history.

A scoreless first period saw the Golden Wolves outshoot the Knights 10-8 on goal, but neither team was able to get on the board. They each also had one penalty that they were able to kill off.

Seven and a half minutes into the second period, the Knights were called for unsportsmanlike conduct and started a penalty kill. Alvernia fired off just one shot in the first minute of the power play. With just 17 seconds left on their penalty kill, the Knights broke away and fired a shot in and scored. The shorthanded goal gave Neumann a 1-0 lead near the midway point of the second period.

The Knights doubled on their lead three minutes later on another shorthanded goal to go up 2-0 with 7:30 left to play in the second.

The Golden Wolves began chipping away about 1:15 later when Frazer Dodd netted his second of the season on an even strength goal.

Alvernia then evened it up with Matthew Davies' first goal of the season to make it a 2-2 contest with just under 90 seconds to go in the second period.

The Golden Wolves were called for a penalty in the final seconds of the second period and entered the final frame playing shorthanded. That didn't slow Alverna down though as Andrew Bechard scored a short-handed goal for the Golden Wolves just 1:14 into the third.

Alvernia was tagged for another penalty just over five minutes into the third, but the Golden Wolves were able to kill it off while allowing just one shot on goal.

The Golden Wolves then added an insurance goal with just over 12 minutes remaining with Isaac Chapman scoring off the assist of Sawyer Senior.

The Golden Wolves killed off two more penalties and did not allow another goal as Alvernia was able to secure the 4-2 win on the road.

10 different Golden Wolves recorded a point on Alvernia's offense. Hunter Alden went 10-for-20 on the faceoff, and Collin Cain picked up the win in net for Alvernia with 22 saves.

The Golden Wolves are back home tomorrow hosting the Knights for the final game of the series.
