Women's Lacrosse Falls to #13 York, 18-4

York, Pa. (March 30, 2022) - #13 York College (5-4, 1-0) jumped out to a 15-0 lead and never looked back as the Spartans defeated Alvernia University (6-4, 0-1) 18-4 on Wednesday night in the MAC Commonwealth opener at York.

The Spartans held Alvernia scoreless until the third quarter before Alvernia was able to get on the board. The Spartans only scored three the rest of the way, but Alvernia was held to just four goals as York took the 18-4 win.

The Spartans put up eight in the first quarter and added six in the second to take a 14-0 lead into the second half.

York scored the opening goal of the second half to go up 15-0, before Natalie Frantz got the Golden Wolves on the board with a goal with 10:11 to go in the third.

The Spartans answered with a goal five minutes later to go back up by 15, 16-1. Erika Whitmoyer then closed out the third quarter with her first goal of the game to make it 16-2 going into the final frame.

York started out the fourth quarter with a goal to go up 17-2, but Alvernia's Haleigh Lackner responded with her 37th of the season to make it a 17-3 game with 10:55 to play. 

Whitmoyer then netted her 40th of the season on a successful free position to put Alvernia within 13, 17-4, with just over five minutes to play.

Alvernia was held scoreless the rest of the way while the Spartans closed out the scoring with a successful free position in the final minute for the 18-4 win. 

Kasey Fox got the start in net and made 11 saves in 30 minutes. Kirsten Lake finished out the second half, making two saves. 

Alvernia returns to action on Saturday at home with a 1:00 PM game against Stevenson.
