Orlando, Fla. (March 6, 2022) - Alvernia University Women's Tennis (3-2) split its first day of matches of its spring break trip down in Orlando, Florida at the USTA National Campus. 

Alvernia took a 6-3 win over King's College (0-2) in a match this morning, but fell to Otterbein (7-2) 9-0 this afternoon. 

In its match against King's, Alvernia jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after doubles play. The duo of Leah Bouchard and Lily Summerson took an 8-1 win at #1 doubles, and Jillian Laughman and Rachel Rinner picked up an 8-0 win at #2 doubles. 

Bouchard and Laughman then picked up straight-set wins at #1 and #2 singles, respectively. Additional wins from Summerson and Jackelyn Mercado, also in straight sets, sealed the 6-3 win.

In its second match of the day, Alvernia was swept by Otterbein. The Golden Wolves nearly picked up points at #2 singles - with Laughman and Rachel Rineer pushing the match to a tiebreaker set, but Otterbein prevailing. Laughman also pushed her #2 singles match to a tiebreaker, but Otterbein again came out on top.

The Golden Wolves return to action in Orlando on Tuesday against Cornell.
