Reading, Pa. (April 4, 2022) - Alvernia University (7-2) took a 7-2 decision over Arcadia University (0-3) in Alvernia's spring opener on Monday during women's tennis action at Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves trailed 1-0 early after dropping its #3 doubles match, 8-1. Alvernia quickly evened it up at 1-1 a few minutes later with the duo of Leah Bouchard and Lily Summerson taking an 8-0 win at #1 doubles.

Alvernia then took a 2-1 advantage going into singles action after Jillian Laughman and Jacklyn Checo Mercado edged Arcadia 8-6 in #2 doubles.

In singles action, Alvernia swept the first five singles matches to keep the Knights out of reach. Bouchard picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at #1 singles and Laughman went 6-1, 6-1 at #2 singles.

Rachel Rineer then took a 6-0, 6-1 win at #3 singles, and Summerson went 6-0, 6-2 at #4 singles. Checo Mercado picked up Alvernia's final singles win of the night with a 6-0, 6-1 win at #5 singles. The Golden Wolves dropped #6 singles, but came away with the 7-2 win. 

The Golden Wolves return to action on Wednesday to host Lebanon Valley College in a MAC Commonwealth matchup.
