Reading, Pa. (April 6, 2022) - #15 Messiah University (8-3, 2-0) scored 14 first-half goals to propel the Falcons to an 18-6 win over Alvernia University (6-6, 0-3) on Wednesday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth women's lacrosse action at Alvernia.

The Falcons and Golden Wolves went back-and-forth early with the score locked up at 2-2 after five minutes of action. Both Haleigh Lackner and Erika Whitmoyer netted the early goals for Alvernia. 

Messiah's offense then broke out and its defense held strong. The Falcons held Alvernia scoreless the rest of the first half while adding 12 to its lead to take a 14-2 advantage into the second half. 

Both Lackner and Whitmoyer opened the second half with goals to cut Messiah's lead to ten, 14-4.

Messiah tacked one on to close out the third quarter and retake an 11 goal lead, 15-4.

Messiah added three to its lead to go up 18-4, but Alvernia scored the final goal of the afternoon off the stick of Mackenzie McKinney for the 18-5 final.

Whitmoyer led Alvernia with three goals and one assist.

Lackner finished with two goals and six draw controls. Alvernia bettered Messiah in draw controls, 14-13.

Kasey Fox and Kirsten Lake split time in net for Alvernia, combining for 13 saves.

The Golden Wolves return to action on Saturday at Hood.
