Reading, Pa. (April 9, 2022) - Alvernia University (8-3, 2-1) improved to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in MAC Commonwealth play with a 6-3 win over Messiah University (3-9, 1-2) on Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth women's tennis action. 

Alvernia trailed 2-1 after doubles play with the duo of Leah Bouchard and Lily Summerson taking an 8-3 win at #1 doubles. 

Alvernia then nearly swept singles play, getting wins in five of its six singles matches for the 6-3 win.

Bouchard took #1 singles in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Jillian Laughman and Rachel Rineer edged out wins at #2 and #3 singles, including a three-set win by Laughman. 

Summerson and Jackelyn Checo Mercado picked up Alvernia's final points of the afternoon wins at #4 and #5 singles for the 6-3 team win.

Alvernia is back in action on Tuesday at Eastern.
