Alvernia Track and Field Competes at AARTFC Championship

Bethlehem, Pa. (May 18, 2022) - Alvernia University Men's and Women's Track and Field competed at day one of the 2022 All-Atlantic Regional Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) on Wednesday at Moravian University.

Alvernia's women's team had four student-athletes competing at the regional championship, and the men's team had two in action on day one.

On the women's side, Susanna Pirollo, Elisabeth Schwarz, Mylina Castillo, and Shinelle Felix competed for the Golden Wolves.

Pirollo sits in third place in a field of 12 through four events of the heptathlon. Pirollo has 2,689 points and is 97 points off of Geneseo's Adriana Straughter's. Through four events, Pirollo is pacing aboving her average. She posted a season-best 15.26 in the 100m hurdles for a second place finish to start off her day. Pirollo followed that with another season-best, this time in the high jump with a mark of 1.52m. Pirollo then took fourth in the shot put with a mark of 10.08m. She capped off her first day with a personal record in the 200m with a time of 27.12.

Castillo and Felix both competed in the triple jump. Felix took second place with a season-best mark of 11.82m, which she hit on her second attempt of the afternoon. Castillo took 15th place with a mark of 10.74m. Felix's mark of 11.82m has her just shy of the top-22 in the nation, which currently stands at 11.88m. 

Schwarz competed in the 100m preliminaries and finished in 12.38 second, a personal best for Schwarz. Schwarz finished in 10th place, just outside of qualifying for tomorrow's final. 

On the men's side, Anthony Roselli and Matthew Wacker competed for the Golden Wolves.

Roselli competed in the 3,000m steeplechase for the Golden Wolves. He finished in 20th place with a time of 10:13.14.

Wacker competed in the 10,000m for the final race of his collegiate career. Wacker ran a 33:18.39 to finish in 19th place.

Alvernia will be back at the AARTFC Championship tomorrow for the final day of competition.
