Golden Wolves Blank Juniata, 4-0

Reading, Pa. (Sept. 20, 2022) - Alvernia University (6-1) picked up its fifth straight win with a 4-0 shutout victory over Juniata College (1-6) on Tuesday night in non-conference field hockey action at Alvernia.

Alvernia led by one at the half, 1-0, before putting up three goals in the second half for the 4-0 win. Four different players scored for the Golden Wolves, and Brooke Spezialetti assisted on two of Alvernia's goals.

After a scoreless first quarter, Alvernia was awarded a corner seven minutes into the second quarter. Abbie Buck inserted the corner to Spezialetti at the top of the circle. Buck came in and positioned herself off the right post as Spezialetti passed it back down to Buck. Buck then fired it into net to give Alvernia the 1-0 lead.

Alvernia held the 1-0 lead into the half, but did not need much time in the third quarter to get things going.

Four minutes into the second half, Alvernia was awarded another corner that Buck again inserted to the top of the circle where Spezialetti was waiting for the ball. This time Spezialetti attempted to take it herself with a hard shot through a crowd of players. Kathryn Palmer redirected Spezialetti's shot to get it around several Eagle defenders and into net for the 2-0 Alvernia lead.

Alvernia added on to its lead early in the fourth quarter when Madison Speece had a breakaway down the Alvernia sideline with Makenzie Smeigh and Rori Caulfield crashing on the goal. Speece sent the ball in where Smeigh passed to Caulfield around the goalie. Caulfield was able to push it into net to give Alvernia the 3-0 advantage.

The Golden Wolves capped off the night with Alyssa Krady shooting in towards goal, but it was saved off the Juniata keeper. Krady collected her own rebound and passed it over to Felicia Getz, who fired into goal for Alvernia's final goal of the night.

Alvernia's Lexi Boettcher picked up the win in net, but did not face a shot all game.

The Golden Wolves are back in action on Saturday when they host York College for a MAC Commonwealth matchup.
