Golden Wolves Down Monarchs, 31-12

Reading, Pa. (Jan. 17, 2023) - Alvernia University (13-5) defeated King's College (4-1) 31-12 in a MAC Men's Wrestling dual on Tuesday night at Alvernia.

King's took a 3-0 lead to start off the match with Gus Petruske taking a 6-1 decision over Keito Shaw and 125 lbs. But, Alvernia evened the match up at 3-3 following a 7-4 decision by Anthony Portillo over Cole Anderson at 133 lbs.

Alvernia then took a 7-3 lead with Avery Leonard earning a 22-14 major decision at 141 lbs. Brandon Flores then recorded Alvernia's first pin of the night with a 4:33 fall over Cameron Leslie at 149 lbs.

Jason Rezac then took a 16-0 technical fall over Bret Murphy at 157 lbs to earn another five points for Alvernia and give the Golden Wolves an 18-3 advantage.

The Monarchs got three back with a 7-4 decision over Robert Lawlor at 165 lbs, but Alvernia came right back with Matthew Lackman taking a 10-0 major decision at 174 lbs to give Alvernia the 22-6.

King's picked up six more points with a pin over Gavin Hollingsworth at 184 lbs to make it a ten point match, 22-12. Alvernia responded again as Mauro Pellot-Vazquez put the match out of reach for the Monarchs with a pin in 49 seconds over Rich Fronheiser at 197 lbs. Palmer Rodenhaber then closed out the match for Alvernia with a 7-0 decision at heavy weight for the 31-12 final.

Alvernia is back in action this weekend at the 2023 MAC Championship.
