Alvernia Goes 1-1 at Trinity Duals

Hartford, Conn. (Jan. 28, 2023) - #23 Alvernia University went 1-1 on Saturday at the Trinity College Duals.

The Golden Wolves fell to #13 Castleton University 24-9 to start the day. They then rebounded and handled the host Bantam, 37-9.

In its match against Castleton, the Golden Wolves dropped three narrow decisions at 125, 133, and 141 to start at a 9-0 deficit. Alvernia got three back with Chance Babb taking a 7-4 decision at 149. The Spartans picked up another three with a 6-1 decision over Robert Lawlor at 157 to build their lead to 12-3. Alvernia got another three back with Matthew Lackman taking a 6-0 decision at 165, but the Spartans won the next three booths to put the match out of reach at 24-6. Palmer Rodenhaber closed out the match for Alvernia with a 1-0 decision at 285 for the 24-9 final.

In its match with host Trinity, Alvernia got out to fast start and didn't look back. Keito Shaw recorded a 16-0 technical fall to start things off, and Anthony Portillo and Avery Leondard each recorded decisions. Babb then had an 18 second fall at 149 to pick up another six points for Alvernia to make it a 17-0 match.

The Golden Wolves continued to roll with Lawlor and Lackman earning decisions, and Gavin Hollingsworth and Isaac Kassis picking up back-to-back decisions. Alvernia faltered at 197, but Rodenhaber closed things out with a fall in 2:13 for the 37-6 final.

Alvernia is back in action on Saturday as the Golden Wolves hosts Elizabethtown College.
