Lombardo Named to College Sports Communicators 30 Under 30 Class of 2023

Greenwood, IN (November 30, 2023) - Alvernia University Director of Sports Information and Operations Marisa Lombardo was named to the College Sports Communicators 30 Under 30 Class of 2023.

"The CSC 30 Under 30 class of 2023 is an outstanding representation of the tremendous young and diverse, strategic and creative talent we have in our organization at all levels of college sports," 2023-24 CSC President John Paquette said. "The 30 Under 30 is among the most popular member recognition programs CSC offers because it is special recognition by your peers. We are grateful to the Young Professionals Committee for its hard work organizing the program. Congratulations to all of our deserving winners."

Recipients of the 30 under 30 award are nominated and voted on by their peers, and selected based upon their professional success and service to their athletic department or conference office. The 30 under 30 class is made up of sports communicators across all three NCAA divisions and the NAIA across the United States and Canada. This is the second year of the CSC 30 under 30 program.

Lombardo oversees the promotion of 32 varsity and club sports, an assistant, a graduate assistant, and a student staff of nearly 30. Lombardo has earned her spot on the College Sports Communicators 30 Under 30 List for her hard work and dedication to the sports information field and to Alvernia Athletics.

"I am beyond grateful and honored to be recognized with the CSC 30 under 30 award alongside 29 other amazing individuals across all divisions. To be recognized by my peers and colleagues is humbling — very few people understand what we do day in and day out. So, to be recognized by a group that gets it is very special. I grew up around sports my whole life, but I didn't even know this job existed until I got to college," said Lombardo. "My journey in athletics began 10 years ago at Alvernia as a freshman, and I feel privileged to have been able to spend my entire professional career here. I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in this profession and learn and grow alongside it. This job is both grueling and gratifying, but I am thankful to be able to work with and celebrate our 600+ student-athletes."

"I would like to thank my co-workers – especially the core group that I work with every day – for their support and friendship. I would also like to thank my colleagues outside of Alvernia for their willingness to always answer a question or offer advice and encouragement. I'd especially like to thank my family for their support and for putting up with my ever-changing schedule. Lastly, and most importantly, I'd like to thank the student-athletes and student-workers at Alvernia. They make Alvernia special and are the reason I do this day after day."

Lombardo was promoted into the role of director in 2021 after serving as the Assistant Director of Sports Information since 2018. At the time of her hire, she was the only female Sports Information Director in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC).

Lombardo was featured in the 2022 College Sports Communicators Women to Watch series and won the Fred Stabley Writing Contest in her district for an article during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

In 2015, Lombardo was named the recipient of the then CoSIDA Dave Wohlhueter Scholarship as an undergraduate student pursuing a career in sports information. She earned her bachelor's in both marketing and communications from Alvernia. Lombardo served as a graduate assistant with the Golden Wolves' sports information team while graduating in 2018 with her master's degree in business administration with a marketing concentration.
