Reading, Pa. (Dec. 9, 2023) - Wilkes University (9-3, 7-2) defeated Alvernia University (6-4-1, 5-4) 9-1 on Saturday night in UCHC Men's Ice Hockey action at Body Zone.

The Colonels put up two goals in the first period and added three more through 19 minutes in the second period. Wilkes appeared poised to take the 5-0 lead into the intermission, but Jason Finan scored on a putback attempt to get Alvernia on the board in the final seconds of the second period. 

Any momentum Alvernia picked up off of Finan's goal quickly faded as the Colonels scored two goals in the first three minutes of the third period to take a 7-1 lead. Wilkes then added two more in the final five minutes for the 9-1 final. 

Two Wilkes players - Nick Swain and Cam Lowe - finished with five points each.

Alvernia looks to bounce back tomorrow and even the series with the Colonels tomorrow at Body Zone at 4:00 PM.
