Gilman Leads Golden Wolves Past Ravens, 10-9 in OT Thriller

Rosemont, Pa (February 18th, 2023) - Ryan Gilman tallied four goals, including the game winner to lead Alvernia University (1-0) to a 10-9 overtime victory over Rosemont College (0-1) Saturday afternoon in non- conference men's lacrosse action at Rosemont. 

The Golden Wolves got on the board first when Alex Piasecki found Gilman who fired the ball into the back of the net to give Alvernia a 1-0 lead just under three minutes into the first quarter. 

Rosemont responded with 7:45 left in the first quarter when Jayden Hogg netted a goal to tie the game at one. 

The Ravens took a 2-1 lead six minutes into the second quarter when Mason Dennis assisted Liam O'Conner to make it 2-1 Ravens. 

The Golden Wolves responded immediately when Zach Kreis netted a goal thanks to an assist from Jack Keenan to tie the game at two with 8:34 left in the half. 

Rosemont then ripped off five unanswered goals in the next seven minutes to take a commanding 7-2 advantage with under two minutes left in the first half. Stephen Mclaughlin netted two goals, O'Conner, A.J Thompson and Yaseen Elarbi all added one. 

The Golden Wolves responded with two goals in the final two minutes of the half with Jack Kenney assisting Michael Ferrara and Peter Capasso netted an unassisted goal to cut the deficit to three heading into the break.

Alvernia closed the gap to 7-5 just over a minute into the third quarter when Billy Viereck found Kreis who netted his second goal of the contest to bring the Golden Wolves within two. 

The Golden Wolves fired ten shots in the next 12 minutes of the third stanza before Christian Wright found the back of the net thanks to an assist from Capasso to cut the Rosemont lead to 7-6 after 45 minutes of action. 

Rosemont responded with two quick goals to start the fourth quarter when Elarbi and Mclaughlin netted unassisted goals to extend the Rosemont lead to 9-6 with ten minutes left in regulation. 

Alvernia grabbed one back with just under seven minutes on the clock when Kenny Howley scored an unassisted goal to make it 9-7. 

The Golden Wolves leveled the score late in the fourth quarter when Gilman tallied two goals in 24 seconds to knot the contest at nine with two minutes left in regulation. 

The Ravens fired a shot on goal with 19 seconds left in regulation but Dane Sabarese denied Navarro Blakes to send the game into overtime knotted at nine. 

Gilman netted his fourth goal of the game with a minute left in the extra period after an assist from Kenney as Alvernia opened its 2023 season with a 10-9 overtime victory. 

Sabarese picked up the win in net for the Golden Wolves and tallied 16 saves. 

Alvernia was led by Gilman with four goals on 12 shots, Kreis tallied two goals and Capasso tallied a goal and a team high two assists. 

The Golden Wolves are back in action next Saturday when they travel to Mount St. Mary College to take on the Knights at 3:00 PM.
