Newburgh, N.Y. (February 25, 2023) - Mount Saint Mary (1-0) defeated Alvernia University (1-1) by a 10-4 decision on Saturday afternoon in men's lacrosse action at Mount Saint Mary in New York.

The Knights jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first five minutes of action, but Alvernia got on the board with a man-up goal from Colin McFadyen midway through the first quarter. But, Alvernia was held scoreless the rest of the first frame while the Knights tacked on three more goals. 

Christian Wright and McFadyen opened the second quarter with back-to-back goals to bring Alvernia within two, 5-3, with ten minutes to play in the second quarter. But, the Knights scored the final two goals of the second quarter to take a 7-3 lead into the half. 

Alvernia was held to just one goal in the second half - an unassisted goal by Peter Capasso in the third quarter - as the Knights scored three more in the final 30 minutes to take the 10-4 win. 

McFadyen led Alvernia with two goals and Capasso finished with one goal and one assist. 

Dane Sabarese finished with nine saves in net for Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves are back in action on Wednesday hosting Immaculata.
