Reading, Pa. (March 22, 2023) - Penn College (7-2) got out to a 5-1 lead after the first quarter and never looked back as the Wildcats took a 14-3 win over Alvernia University (4-3) on Wednesday in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Alvernia.

The Wildcats scored three goals in the opening six and a half minutes to take a 3-0 lead early. Alvernia got one back on an unassisted goal by Kyle Patton. But, Penn scored two more to close out the quarter with a 5-1 lead.

Alvernia opened the scoring in the second quarter with a man-up goal from Kenny Howley off the assist of Peter Capasso to get Alvernia within three, 5-2, with 12:49 to play in the half.

But, turnovers got the best of Alvernia and the Wildcats took advantage. Penn scored four goals to close out the half with a 9-2 lead, and opened the second half with five straight goals that took the game deep into the fourth quarter as Penn took a demanding 14-2 lead.

Alvernia scored the final goal of the game on a shot by Ryan Gilman off the assist of Colin McFadyne, but the Wildcats came away with the 14-3 win.

Jack Kenney finished 10-for-17 on faceoffs. Michael Ferrara, Christian Wright, and Zach Kreis finished with four ground balls each. Dane Sabarese finished with 19 saves in net for Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves are back in action on Saturday hosting Farmingdale State.
