McDaniel Blows by Alvernia, 15-2

Westminster, Md. (March 4, 2023) - McDaniel College (3-1) downed Alvernia University (2-2) 15-2, in a non-conference men's lacrosse matchup Saturday afternoon at McDaniel. 

McDaniel struck first just over two minutes into the game with a goal from Dom Calderoni thanks to an assist from Nick DeLoriers. McDaniel followed that up with a goal from Eric Manfredonia to take a 2-0 lead five minutes into the contest. 

The Green Terror made it 4-0 when Dylan Vitale and Manfredonia both found the back of the net to give McDaniel a four goal advantage with under five to play in the first quarter. 

McDaniel extended its lead to six goals after Manfredonia and AJ Johnson scored to give the Green Terror a 6-0 lead after one quarter of play. 

McDaniel continued to add to its lead, netting two goals in the first six minutes of the second period to make it 8-0 with nine to play in the half. The Green Terror would tally one more when Manfredonia notched his fourth goal of the half to make it 9-0 with 3:27 left to play in the second quarter. 

The Golden Wolves got on the board just before halftime when Colin McFadyen found Christian Wright who ripped a shot that found the top corner of the goal to make it 9-1 McDaniel heading into the half. 

Alvernia's Dane Sabarese tallied eight saves in the first half on 28 total shots. 

McDaniel netted three goals in the first ten minutes of the second half to push the lead to 12-1 with six minutes to go in the third quarter. 

The Green Terror scored two more times in the final two minutes of the third quarter thanks to goals from Nick Wingo and DeLoriers to extend the lead to 14-1 with 15 minutes left to play. 

Jack Keenan netted the first goal of the fourth quarter with just over four minutes left in the game when he scored an unassisted goal to make it 14-2 McDaniel. 

Riley Pitt netted one more goal in the final minute of play to secure the 15-2 victory for McDaniel. 

Sabarese recorded 17 saves in net for the Golden Wolves. 

Alvernia was led by Wright and Keenan with the goals, McFadyen tallied the only assist for the Golden Wolves and Kenny Howley fired six shots. Jack Kenney recorded eight faceoff wins for Alvernia. 

The Golden Wolves are back in action on Wednesday when they host Cairn University at 4:00 PM.
