Reading, Pa. (Sept. 16, 2023) - Stockton University (5-2) scored a golden goal in the ninth minute of overtime as the Osprey took a 2-1 win over Alvernia University () on Saturday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action at Alvernia.

The Osprey got on the board with a goal from Carlee Thompson in the 12th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Alvernia was held to just two shots on goal in the first half as the Osprey took a 1-0 lead into the break.

The Golden Wolves got on the board late in the third quarter as Kathryn Palmer found Brianna Burkholder to even the game up at 1-1.

Both teams had equal shot opportunities in the fourth quarter, with Alvernia outshooting the Osprey on goal 2-1, but neither team could convert as the game headed into overtime.

The Osprey sent two shots at Alvernia in the first five minutes of overtime, but on sailed off the goal and Alvernia goalie Lexi Boettcher made a fantastic save on the other to keep it a 1-1 game.

The Osprey continued to pepper Alvernia over the next few minutes of overtime, and finally found success on back-to-back corner opportunities as Allie Palumbo found the back of the net on an assist by Ameera Bilgrami. 

Boettcher finished with eight saves in net for the Golden Wolves.

Alvernia is back in action on Wednesday at Franklin and Marshall.
