Reading, Pa. (Sept. 21, 2023) - Alvernia University (1-2) took five out of six singles matches en route to a 6-3 win over Penn State Berks (0-1) in non-conference men's tennis action at Penn State Berks.

Alvernia faced a 2-1 deficit coming out of doubles action, but the Golden Wolves nearly ran the table in singles play to pick up their first win of the fall season.

Alvernia's #3 doubles team of Alec Verhagen and Alexandros Vaziri earned Alvernia's only point in doubles play with an 8-3 win.

Facing a 2-1 deficit going into singles action, Alvernia evened the match up at 2-2 with Jayden Lewis picking up a 6-3, 6-2 win at #2 singles. Berks then got one back at #1 singles to retake the 3-2 lead, but Alvernia closed out the match with wins at #3 - #6 singles action.

Thomas Figurelli at #3 singles and Luke Brisbois at #4 singles each won their matches in decisive third sets. Zachary Hinkel needed a tiebreaker in his first set to pick up a two set win at #6 single as Alvernia recorded three close matches. Verhagen also picked up a point at #5 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win.

Alvernia is back in action on September 28th at Arcadia.
