Glenside, Pa (September 28, 2023) - Alvernia University (2-2) took down Arcadia University (1-1) 5-4, in a non-conference men's tennis matchup Thursday afternoon at Arcadia. 

The Golden Wolves posted a 2-1 record in doubles play thanks to wins from Lucas Berger/Jayden Lewis and Thomas Figurelli/Luke Brisbois. Alvernia then grabbed three of the possible six points from singles to secure the tight 5-4 victory. 

Berger and Lewis took down Aaron Allen and Lee Conlu of Arcadia by a score of 8-7 in #1 doubles and Figurelli and Brisbois defeated Matthew Nagy and Ryan Salmon in #2 doubles 8-5. Alec Verhagen and Zachary Hinkel competed in the #3 doubles spot but fell to Arcadia's David Cassel and Leo Dupont as the Golden Wolves took a 2-1 lead after doubles play. 

Berger dropped his match at #1 singles to Allen but Lewis and Figurelli both recorded wins in #2 and #3 singles. Lewis took down Conlu 6-1, 6-1 in the #2 spot and Figurelli defeated Nagy 6-1, 7-6, 6-3 to give the Golden Wolves a 4-2 lead. 

Verhagen and Hinkel both dropped their singles matches as the Knights tied the score at four. Verhagen fell to Cassel 1-6, 6-4, 4-6 in the #5 singles spot and Hinkel dropped the #6 singles match to Dupont 4-6, 1-6. 

Brisbois defeated Arcadia's Salmon in the #4 singles spot to clinch the 5-4 victory for the Golden Wolves. Brisbois defeated Salmon in dominant fashion, 6-0, 6-1 to secure the victory for Alvernia. 

The Golden Wolves are back in action on Saturday when they travel to DeSales to take on the Bulldogs at 12:00 PM.
