Reading, Pa (November 10, 2024) - Elijah Hamilton led the way for Alvernia University (2-0) with a double-double to lead the Golden Wolves to a 86-70 victory over Penn State Mont Alto (2-1) in a non-conference men's basketball matchup Sunday afternoon on Alvernia's Jack McCloskey Court.

The Golden Wolves held a seven point lead at the half and outscored the Lions 49-38 in the second half en route to the 16 point victory. Hamilton posted his second straight double-double with 20+ points with 26 points and ten rebounds.

How it Happened
  • PSU Mont Alto jumped out to an early lead on the Golden Wolves after scoring the first six points of the ball game that forced an Alvernia timeout in the first two minutes of the game.

  • Alvernia then continued to flip the script on the Lions and tallied a 10-0 run to grab a ten point, 21-11 lead over the Lions with under 11 to go in the half. Naji Hamilton had five of the ten for Alvernia, Elijah Hamilton added three and Kareem Diaz had two during the run.
  • Alvernia continued to hold its lead and pushed it to a 14 point, 33-19 advantage with just over six minutes to go in the half thanks to six points from Jakob Kelly and four more from Elijah Hamilton
  • The Lions then swung the momentum in their favor and recorded a 12-5 scoring run to end the first half but the Golden Wolves still held a seven point, 38-31 lead heading into the half.
  • The Golden Wolves came out of the half and rattled off a 16-5 scoring run in the first five minutes of the half to swing the lead to 18, 54-36. Jacob Stoudt knocked down a three and added a layup, Elijah Hamilton added four and Robert Cottrell tallied three.
  • Alvernia continued to add to its lead, scoring 15 of the next 23 points to push it to a 25 point, 69-44 lead over the Lions with ten minutes to go in the game.
  • The Lions ended the game on a 26-17 scoring run but it was not enough as the Golden Wolves secured the 16 point, 86-70 victory over PSU Mont Alto.
