Big Third Period Lifts Golden Wolves Over Mustangs, 7-3

Reading, Pa (November 10, 2024) - Alvernia University (2-2, 1-1) netted four goals in the final period en route to a 7-3 victory over #12 Stevenson University (3-1, 1-1) Sunday night in a MAC men's ice hockey clash at the Santander Arena. 

The Golden Wolves held a 3-2 lead heading into the third period and netted four goals in the final 20 minutes to secure the 7-3 victory over the #12 ranked Mustangs. Alvernia handed Stevenson its first loss of the 2024-25 season and levels the season series at 1-1. 

How it Happened 
  • The Golden Wolves got on the board first after Matthew Imbriano picked the pocket of a Stevenson player and flicked the puck to Joey Arnold, Arnold then ripped a shot into the top right corner of the goal to give the Golden Wolves a 1-0 lead in the first four minutes of the contest. 
  • The Mustangs would find the leveler just over five minutes later when Connor MacDonell and Gage Parillo assisted Aiden Lindley to make it 1-1 with 11 minutes to go in the period. 
  • The Golden Wolves grabbed the lead back in the final four minutes of the first period after Edvin Robertsson and Justin Pare assisted Lucas Ochitwa to give the Golden Wolves a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission. 
  • Alvernia pushed its lead to two in the first six minutes of the second period when Robertsson found the back of the net after Easton Inglis won the faceoff and found Robertsson, Robertsson ripped a shot past the tender and into the back of the net. 
  • The Mustangs pulled within one, 3-2 with just under eight minutes to go in the second period when John Musella and Dylan Florit assisted Liam McCanney to make it 3-2 heading into the final intermission. 
  • The Golden Wolves pushed the lead to two, 4-2 in the first six minutes of the game after Nolan Barrett fired a shot into the top corner of the net thanks to assists from Sawyer Senio and Inglis. 
  • Stevenson pulled back within one just over two minutes later when Evan Beers assisted McCanney to make it 4-3 Golden Wolves with 12 minutes to play. 
  • Senio then found the back of the net for Alvernia with under ten to play in the period after assists from Christian Heckman and Frazer Dodd to make it 5-3 Golden Wolves. 
  • Alvernia tallied another within the next two minutes when Matthew Imbriano put the puck into the back of the net to make it a three goal, 6-3 lead. Will White and Arnold both tallied apples on Imbriano's goal. 
  • The Golden Wolves sealed the deal with one final goal in the final five minutes of the game after Dean Noonan and Robertsson assisted Inglis to secure the 7-3 victory over the Mustangs.
