Alvernia Falls to Cortland, 5-2

Reading, Pa (November 2, 2024) - Alvernia University (1-1) dropped a non-conference men's ice hockey matchup to #13 Cortland University (2-0) 5-2, Saturday night at BodyZone. 

The Golden Wolves and the Red Dragons were locked at one after the first period but Cortland came out of the first intermission and netted five goals in the second period en route to the 5-2 victory. 

How it Happened 
  • A scoreless first period was highlighted by Cortland sending 25 shots at the Alvernia net with 13 of them going on goal by Alvernia's Will Augustine saved all 13 to keep the Red Dragons off the board. 
  • Alvernia sent 11 shots at the Cortland net in the first period with eight going on goal but could not find the back of the net as the Golden Wolves and Red Dragons went into the first intermission tied at zero. 
  • Cortland came out of the first intermission and broke the game wide open. The Red Dragons started with a goal in the first 35 seconds of the second period when Colby Seitz assisted Nate Berke on a shorthanded goal to make it 1-0 Cortland. 
  • Cortland added two more in the sixth and eighth minutes of the period when Brady Hildreth netted a goal to make it 2-0 and Berke added his second to make it 3-0. 
  • Cortland made it 4-0 just under nine minutes into the period when Johnny Facchini  assisted Nathan Garnier. 
  • Garnier netted a second goal just 17 seconds later to push the Cortland lead to five with ten minutes to go in the period. 
  • The Golden Wolves grabbed one back in the 12th minute of the period after Joey Arnold found the back of the net thanks to assists from Frazer Dodd and Patrick Del Vecchio to make it 5-1 Cortland after two periods of play. 
  • The Golden Wolves made it 5-2 with under five to go in the third period when Easton Inglis netted a power play goal after assists from Sean Kenny and Sawyer Senio but it was not enough as Cortland secured the 5-2 victory.
