Strong First Period Lifts Dutchmen Past Golden Wolves, 4-0

Reading, Pa. (Nov. 30, 2024) - Lebanon Valley College (3-4-1, 2-3-1) took a 3-0 lead in the first period and never looked back as the Dutchmen took a 4-0 win over Alvernia University (3-5-0, 2-4-0) on Saturday night in MAC Men's Ice Hockey action.

The Dutchmen scored three goals - including a power play goal - in the final five minutes of the opening period to take the 3-0 lead into the second. Alvernia out-shot Lebanon Valley 11-5 on goal in the second period, but could not get on the board. Lebanon Valley then scored an insurance goal on a power play six minutes into the third to take a 4-0 lead. The Dutchmen then held off a late surge of shots by the Golden Wolves in the final minutes to maintain the shutout and take the 4-0 win.

Each team finished with two power play opportunities. The Dutchmen scored on each of theirs, while Alvernia was held to a combined four shots between both of its opportunities. Alvernia outshot Lebanon Valley 65-33 overall and 34-24 on goal.

Brock Mueller and Peter Lopes led Alvernia with four shots on goal. Both Matthew Davies and Edvin Robertson had six shots total. Joey Arnold had a team-high three blocks. Jacob Stern finished with 20 saves in net for Alvernia.

Alvernia is now 0-2 against the Dutchmen this season after failing to Lebanon Valley 3-2 in overtime last weekend. Alvernia will have an opportunity to grab the final game of the three-game series in the regular season finale in February.

The Golden Wolves are back in action with two-games at Neumann on Friday and Saturday. It's Alvernia's final series before the nearly month-long mid-season break.
