Knights Down Golden Wovles, 5-4

Aston, Pa. (Dec. 6, 2024) - Neumann University (7-0-2, 3-0-2) used a three goal second period to defeat Alvernia University (3-6-0, 2-5-0) 5-4 on Friday night in MAC Men's Ice Hockey action at Neumann's Ice Works.

The Golden Wolves and Knights were tied at 1-1 through the first period, but Neumann netted three goals in the second to take a 4-2 lead into the third period. But, Alvernia could not catch the Knights as Neumann took the 5-4 lead.

How it Happened
  • Alvernia got the scoring going ten minutes into the game with a putback goal from Edvin Robertsson off the initial shot from Isaac Chapman. The Golden Wolves then had a power-play opportunity a minute later, but could not add to their lead.
  • Neumann then tied the game at 1-1 with just over five minutes to play in the opening period. The Golden Wolves killed off an ensuing power-play opportunity for the Knights to send the game into the second period tied at 1-1.
  • The Knights took the 2-1 lead two minutes into the second period before Alvernia evened it up at 2-2 with a Lucas Ochitwa power-play goal with eight and a half minutes to play in the period.
  • The tie did not last long as Neumann retook the lead on a short-handed goal just under a minute later, and the Knights made it a 4-2 game on a power-play goal with five minutes to play in the second.
  • The Golden Wolves sent a flurry of shots at net in the final five minutes of the period, but could not find the back of the net as Neumann took a 4-2 lead into the final frame.
  • Alvernia got within one, 4-3, six minutes into the third period on a putback goal by Justin Pare off the initial shot of Brock Mueller. But, Neumann pushed it right back to a two-goal four minutes later as Neumann's Max Donohue netted his third goal of the night.
  • Alvernia was awarded a power-play off the ensuing faceoff, but Neumann made three saves to keep it a two goal game with seven and a half minutes to play.
  • The Golden Wolves continued to pressure through the final horn, scoring a goal with five seconds to play off the stick of Mueller and the assist of Owen Noll. But, it was too little too late as Neumann took the 5-4 win.
